The new consumption and efficiency-optimised 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission features a compellingly lowered fuel consumption, extremely gentle gearshifts and a reduced noise level.

The Direct-Steer system (standard equipment in conjunction with Dynamic Handling package) offers a more direct steering ratio and reduces the need to steer in wide steering angles, for instance when parking or in tight curves. This increases the vehicle’s agility and steering comfort through precise steering characteristics and good feedback.

DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control helps the driver to maintain a specified (timed) distance from the vehicle in front when travelling at speeds of 0 to 200 km/h.

Implementing BAS PLUS Brake Assist in conjunction with the PRE-SAFE® brake system helps to avoid rear-end collisions more effectively. If radar sensors identify a potential collision hazard and the driver applies the brakes, BAS PLUS is primed to apply a braking pressure in accordance with the situation.

If a potential collision hazard is identified within the speed range 30 to 200 km/h and the driver fails to apply the brakes in good time, the PRE-SAFE® brake system emits visual and audible signals. If the driver does not respond to this warning, independent partial braking is activated approx. 1.6 seconds before the calculated impact at a deceleration rate of up to 4m/s2. If the system categorises the situation as highly critical and there is still no reaction from the driver, an independent full brake application can be initiated automatically 0.6 seconds before what is considered an unavoidable impact.

The PARKTRONIC parking aid including Parking guidance assists the driver when looking for a parking place and makes it easier to park by giving concrete steering instructions.

Ultrasonic sensors in the side front bumper measure the length of parking spaces parallel to the car automatically if the car drives past at a speed of 35 km/h or less. Parking Guidance starts once a suitable space has been found and reverse gear has been engaged.

It gives the driver visual and audible directions via the instrument cluster regarding the correct steering angle as well as the turn-in and turn-back points.

The electronic parking aid PARKTRONIC monitors the front and rear of the vehicle when manoeuvring with the help of ten sensors and warns the driver if it detects a risk of collision. If the system identifies an obstruction, it emits a visual signal. As soon as the distance is less than approximately 35 cm, a short warning sound is emitted. If the vehicle gets even closer (less than approximately 25 cm away) a continuous signal is heard. PARKTRONIC uses this procedure to make parking easier, even with limited space available. If the car is not straight after the first reversing move, the system also helps the driver with the required manoeuvring moves.

The PRE-SAFE® occupant protection system can recognise critical driving situations and, if necessary, pre-emptively activate reversible safety systems to help reduce the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants. To do this, PRE-SAFE® permanently monitors sensor data from systems such as the ESP® and BAS, and can thus, for example, recognise vehicle over/understeering as well as emergency braking.

If a typical critical driving situation is detected by the system, the electromotive belt tensioners can be activated, the electrically adjustable front-passenger seat with a memory function (optional extra) can be moved to a better position for the event of impact and the side windows can be closed automatically, all within fractions of a second.

The Intelligent Light System ensures the best possible visibility in all weather conditions and the most diverse traffic situations. When encountering oncoming traffic, in curves, fog or on free stretches of road the system adjusts to the situation adapting the characteristics of the light individually.

Country mode illuminates both the road surface and the edge of the road, motorway mode the entire width of the road. The extended fog lamp function improves visibility, whilst the active light function and the cornering light function follow the driver's steering angle.

An additional aerial is used for digital radio (DAB). This provides improved reception at near CD quality, a broader selection of stations, as well as more detailed programme and traffic information.
Switching between analogue and digital reception is automatic according to network coverage and signal strength.

The Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround-sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 400, 500 W output turns every journey into an acoustic experience.
With eleven high-performance speakers, Logic 7® multi-channel technology and the MOST booster with integral digital sound processor (DSP), you'll feel as though you're in a concert hall. The volume automatically adjusts according to the speed of your vehicle as you drive.

All you need for the optional convenience telephony is the Mercedes-Benz head unit with screen, a compatible mobile phone and a cradle to connect your phone to the exterior aerial via a fixed interface in the centre console.

The integrated Bluetooth® interface allows wireless interaction with a compatible mobile phone. You can also use the charging function to charge your mobile phone. The functions of your phone can be accessed via the screen. Incoming text messages can also be displayed here. And if you want to make a call, you can select your contact safely and intuitively using the control unit.

The Media Interface including the consumer cable kit, is a universal interface located in the centre console with which you can connect different mobile audio and video devices to the radio or multimedia system.

You can also access external storage media such as USB sticks or an iPod® using the vehicle's control and display units.

The new COMAND Online multimedia system is the highlight of the new telematics generation. This innovative system features an Internet browser[2], combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions and also includes the Speed Limit Assist function.

It uses an integrated camera to identify the speed limits on road signs and show the permitted maximum speed on the central display. The system also compares identified speed limits against the data stored in the navigation system.



Component of the new COMAND Online multimedia system:

The new Becker® MAP PILOT enables the Audio 20 CD radio to be upgraded to a fully-fledged navigation unit with map navigation in 3D view.

The panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL represents a world premiere in automotive engineering. The new SLK is the first series-production vehicle in the world available with this innovation. The roof glass unit changes its tone at the touch of a button from dark to transparent and vice versa within seconds. This way driver and passenger can enjoy a view of the sky even when the roof is closed. And when the glass is darkened, the heating up of the vehicle interior is considerably reduced.

The novel AIRGUIDE draught-stop provides more comfort for open-top motoring by offering effective protection against draughts for the driver and passenger.

The transparent pivoting elements of the AIRGUIDE are attached to the rear of the roll-over bars. They are manually pivoted into the space between the seats and can be separately adjusted for the driver and front passenger. There they deflect the airflow and considerably reduce the draughts reaching the head and neck areas of the occupants.

The conventional fabric draught-stop (optional) is based on a fine mesh structure which slows down the air flowing through it in order to protect passengers from draughts. It allows for open-top motoring even at higher speeds or cooler temperatures. It sits in a fixed frame and fits in between the roll-over bars. If the draught-stop is not needed, it is stored in a space-saving, protected holder in the boot.

The trim, armrests and map pockets in the doors lit by fibre-optic cables and the stylishly illuminated centre console provide a pleasant lighting atmosphere when driving at night.

The light in the SOLAR red colour shade not only makes the interior seem larger and more sporty and elegant, it also has a dimmer function adjustable to five different intensity levels.

The Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) with tow-away protection and interior monitoring warns in the event of theft and unauthorised entry, as soon as the system is activated via remote control.

The system triggers an alarm when it detects unauthorised opening of the vehicle doors, boot lid or the bonnet.
The alarm also sounds if the ignition lock is shorted or removed or the foot brake applied.
The tow-away protection function responds to a change in the position of the vehicle and can be deactivated – for example, if the car has to be towed or loaded onto another vehicle.

The Dynamic Handling Package offers a significant enhancement of the vehicle's driving dynamics, ride comfort and driving stability at high speeds. A touch of the Sports mode button is all it takes to shift the damper setting into sports mode.

The Adaptive Damping electronically regulated damping system adjusts its characteristics continually and steplessly, the damping force being optimally adapted to each individual wheel in accordance with the current handling situation and road conditions. This results in a greater handling stability in all speed ranges – as well as greater motoring enjoyment.

With the E/S push-button switch the gearshifting characteristics of 7G-TRONIC PLUS can be increased separately: in the S program all the parameters are geared towards best-possible acceleration and swift reaction.

The Direct-Steer system included in the package provides a more sporty and direct steering sensation in both driving modes while the Torque Vectoring Brake brakes the rear wheel on the inside of the bend when it detects understeer, thus providing better handling safety for improved driving dynamics.

The Interior Light package provides you with a better overview inside and around the vehicle with a variety of intelligently arranged light units.

Equipment and appointments at a glance:

The memory package makes frequent changes of driver much more convenient. It stores the individual settings for the seats, steering wheel and exterior mirrors for up to three people. As soon as a driver selects a setting with the touch of a button, electric controls automatically set the seat, exterior mirrors and steering column back to the previously saved positions.

Another feature is the 4-way lumbar support. It reinforces the spinal column, ensures an ergonomic sitting position and in turn significantly improves ride comfort on all lengths of journey.

The Smoker package includes a cigarette lighter and an ashtray instead of a stowage compartment.

An automatic dimming function for the driver's side exterior mirror and the interior mirror help to enhance safety and comfort.

In addition, both exterior mirrors can be completely folded in and moved back to their original position electrically. This preventative protection of the mirror housing helps to avoid damage (and consequent repair costs) that could be caused when driving through narrow entrances and exits, parking the car or going through automatic car washes.

Even the standard version of the SLK Roadster is athletic to the core. With impressive details, the optional AMG Sports package enhances this sporty character even further.
