AIRMATIC provides ride comfort and driving dynamics at the highest level. The air suspension system works in combination with a fully automatic damping adjustment which continually adjusts to the driving situation and provides excellent road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even when the road is only slightly bumpy. In addition the vehicle can be raised on poor or unfavourable stretches of road to increase ground clearance. When driving continually at a high speed the vehicle is automatically lowered. Active multicontour seat package with NECK-PRO head restraints and massage function, front
The active multicontour seat allows particularly good adjustment to individual seating needs, tunes itself to each driving situation, massages the back muscles and reduces the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
Depending on the steering angle, lateral acceleration and speed the air cushions in the seat side bolsters are tightened pneumatically in two stages such that ideal lateral support is guaranteed even when the driver is employing a very dynamic driving style. After the dynamic function is switched off the previously selected pressure in the side chambers are automatically reset symmetrically.
The massage function prevents the back muscles from becoming tired on long drives. It supports the principle of "dynamic sitting" which is recommended by orthopaedists.
Besides its benefits for health and comfort, the active multicontour seat can also contribute to safety: when PRE-SAFE® is activated, the PRE-SAFE® positioning function automatically moves the front-passenger seat into a position which is favourable in the event of an accident (in conjunction with the optional memory package). | | ADAPTIVE BRAKE system with HOLD function and hill start assist
The integral ADAPTIVE BRAKE system improves ride comfort and safety by helping to execute critical braking manoeuvres with the ABS anti-lock braking system and making difficult driving situations easier with convenience functions.
These include the HOLD function which acts like a parking brake and can be activated by briefly depressing the brake pedal (and is released again either by briefly depressing the accelerator pedal or by depressing the brake pedal briefly once again). The HOLD function then keeps the vehicle from rolling unintentionally when stopped at a light or in stop-and-go traffic. The hill-start assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back, or forwards unexpectedly, e.g. when pulling away on a slope and changing from the brake to the accelerator pedal. The "brake drying" function ensures that full braking power is available even under wet conditions. The (optional) PARKTRONIC electronic parking aid monitors the front and rear of the vehicle when manoeuvring by means of sensors and warns the driver if there is a risk of collision. If the system identifies an obstacle, it provides a visual signal. Should the distance drop below approx. 35 cm, a short warning sound is emitted. If the vehicle approaches even closer (to less than approx. 25 cm) a continuous signal is heard. PARKTRONIC uses this procedure to make parking safe, even with limited space available.
Parking Guidance helps the driver, not only when parking, but also when looking for a parking space. Because the ultrasonic sensors measure the length of parking spaces parallel to the car automatically at vehicle speeds of 30 km/h or less. If a suitable space is found, Parking Guidance then provides precise directions regarding the correct steering angle as well as the turn-in and turn-back points.

| Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) with acceleration skid control (ASR) | | Driving Assistance package
The optional Driving Assistance package consists of DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS, PRE-SAFE® brake as well the Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist systems. The DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control system helps keep the vehicle at the desired distance from vehicles travelling ahead, operating in the speed range from 0 to 200 km/h. Radar sensors permanently measure the distance, regulate the speed and intervene to brake the vehicle, being able to bring it to a standstill if necessary. If the distance to a vehicle travelling ahead narrows down too fast, the system warns the driver by means of an audible signal, and at the same time it automatically calculates the brake pressure required to avoid a collision. If there is no vehicle travelling ahead, DISTRONIC PLUS acts as cruise control and maintains the pre-set speed constant. The Lane Keeping Assist feature registers lane markings and keeps the vehicle safely in its lane in the event of unintentional steering movements. | |
With its optional integrated camera the system recognises traffic signs and shows the specified speed limit on the central display. So in particular for sections of road with continually changing road signs or in construction areas the danger of overlooking the speed limit is reduced. | 
| KEYLESS-GO package, automatic vehicle unlocking incl. convenience boot locking function
KEYLESS-GO is an electronic drive authorisation system. The driver does not need a key to unlock or start the vehicle. The driver only needs to carry the KEYLESS-GO chip card and pull the door handle. Simply pressing the start/stop button starts the car. With the convenience boot locking function, the boot can be opened either with the key or a switch in the driver’s side door panel. The boot can also be closed by means of a switch in the boot lid. |

The Light Package (optionally available) comprises bi-xenon headlamps with variable light distribution for country roads, motorways and for thick fog conditions, as well as automatic headlamp range adjustment. With the additional functions of the adaptive main beam assist feature, the system automatically adjusts the headlamps in a soft transition towards the low-beam setting in the event of oncoming traffic or vehicles travelling ahead. If the road ahead is free, on the other hand, the greatest possible range is made use of - and can be extended from 65 to a maximum of 300 metres. It is no longer necessary to switch back and forth between high and low beam manually. The active light function and the cornering light feature in the foglamps are further components of the package. To make yourself seen - an essential safety aspect. The daytime driving lights and the LED-technology turn indicator lamps draw sufficient attention from other road users, and the integrated headlamp cleaning system reduces to a minimum the soiling of the vehicle’s lighting system. | | Night View Assist Plus[4], [5]
The optional Night View Assist Plus function helps the driver by reducing the danger of overlooking dangers when visibility is bad. The system works with infrared headlamps and an infrared camera which transmits an image as a clear grey-scale image which is shown in the central display of the COMAND APS multimedia system. Pedestrians can be automatically identified and highlighted in the display. With this option, it is easier to identify people, animals and objects even when visibility is poor.

| Tyre pressure monitoring system
The tyre pressure monitoring system warns if the tyres have lost a dangerous amount of air, thus increasing handling safety. The wheel electronics of the four wheels continually transmit the tyre pressure and temperature data to the vehicle’s control unit. If the system identifies a variance then it warns the driver via a yellow or red signal in the instrument cluster.

The reversing camera adds a convenient feature and also tangibly improves safety. The camera integrated in the boot lid transmits an image of the area behind the vehicle to the COMAND central display. The camera image not only makes parking easier but also aids in manoeuvring through hard-to-see terrain. |

The optional Lane Keeping Assist feature warns the driver by means of a discreet vibration of the steering wheel as soon as he unintentionally drifts across the lane markings which have been registered by the system, and leaves the current lane. If the turn indicator is operated beforehand or the steering wheel is turned with determination, the system assumes that the lane change is intentional and does not emit a warning. Telephony, entertainment and navigation
Audio 50 APS is the entertainment and navigation centre of the vehicle. All functions can be conveniently operated using the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel and the 5.8-inch colour display. With the integral LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system (only in conjunction with the optional 6-disc DVD changer) it is also possible to give verbal commands.
In DVD navigation mode the way ahead is shown on an easy-to-read map. A radio provides entertainment along with a DVD player which can play audio CDs, MP3 CDs and DVDs. To listen to music from external data devices, simply use the Aux-in connection in the glove compartment. There is also the option of using Bluetooth® to establish data connections. | | | |
The media interface is a universal interface in the glove compartment which you can use with various mobile audio and video devices while you're on the road. COMAND APS is equipped with a hard-disk-based navigation system with map display and a 7-inch colour display and serves as the central control unit for all telematics components.
The system's entertainment functions include a radio, a CD/DVD drive which is MP3-compatible, an equalizer with speed-sensitive volume control and MUSIC REGISTER with a 6 GB hard disk for storing digital music files. An Aux-in connection in the glove compartment, a slot for SD memory cards and a Bluetooth interface provide connections to external data devices and a mobile telephone. In addition the Gracenote® database supplies information on the album and artist for CDs and DVDs. LINGUATRONIC allows you to operate COMAND APS using voice entry. |

The memory package makes constant switching between drivers much more convenient. It stores the individual settings for the driver's seat for up to three people. Multi-zone luxury automatic climate control THERMOTRONIC (standard for V8 models) provides individual temperatures and a pleasant vehicle interior climate for driver, front passenger and vehicle rear. The system enables air to be directed in a targeted manner to the front seats, and via air vents in the B-pillars, to the vehicle rear, complemented by a compact booster located beneath the centre console. Rear-compartment passengers have a separate control panel at their disposal.
In order to ensure an optimum climate at all times, sensors constantly monitor sunlight intensity and the humidity of the air drawn in. In addition, a combination or active charcoal filter stops dust and pollutants. Apart from this, automatic mode can be adjusted to individual wishes with the three climate modes DIFFUSE, MEDIUM and FOCUS. |

The climatised seats improve ride comfort on longer trips and reduces transpiration with a pleasant air flow and the selectable seat heating. Integrated in the seat upholstery are fans which uniformly distribute a flow or air in three intensity levels under the leather cover of the backrest and cushions. The air flows through the fine perforation and quickly cools down the surface of the seats to a pleasant temperature – even if the vehicle has been heated by an intense amount of sunlight for a longer period of time. On cold days you can turn on the three-level adjustable seat heating, which guarantees together with the air flow that wet clothes dry faster. |

The electrically-operated rear window blind and the optimised double sun visors protect the passengers from direct sunlight and reduce the temperature in the vehicle interior.
