The B-Class also assists you in risky driving situations. The active safety systems include the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), the STEER CONTROL steering assistance system and Brake Assist (BAS). Together they help you in critical dynamic handling situations.
If your car is in danger of oversteering or understeering, ESP® selectively brakes individual wheels and adjusts the engine output if required. To enhance stability, the car is also fitted with STEER CONTROL. When ESP® activates, a perceptible impulse in the steering wheel helps the driver to countersteer in the correct direction.
BAS recognises emergency braking by the speed with which you apply the brake and instantly builds up the maximum braking force, bringing the car to a standstill faster.
The adaptive brake lights are another helpful feature. They warn following traffic that an emergency stop is in process. If the driver brakes sharply from a speed of more than 50 km/h, or if an emergency stop has to be performed such that the Brake Assist system intervenes, instead of the conventional brake lamps, the lights flash quickly. If the stop is from a speed of more than 70 km/h, when the vehicle comes to a standstill the hazard warning lamps light up as well.
